Things to Remember When Driving at Night

Top Five Night Driving Tips

Driving at night is always more dangerous than driving in daylight. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that fatal accidents are three times greater at night than during the day. The primary reason behind this is that you can’t see clearly in the dark; you’ll see less of the road ahead and have less time to stop and avoid any mishap. Sometimes even the glare from too-bright lights can invite problems, and this is just one of the reasons. To help you be safe on the road at night, the Broadway Credit team in Green Bay, WI, has put together a list of tips for driving safely after sundown. Scroll down and read more.

Five Night Driving Tips you Need to Know

No Drunk Driving: Driving under the influence of alcohol poses a bigger risk after dark. The fatal accidents involving alcohol are four times higher than in the daytime. Regardless of the time, never drink and drive.

Avoid Driving When Drowsy- Midnight to 6 a.m. is the hours when drowsy-driving crashes are most likely to happen. Be alert during these hours as there might be sleepy drivers on the road. Avoid driving if you feel drowsy.

Drive Slowly: Speeding is also another major contributor to night-driving crashes. The visibility of the road decreases substantially after sundown, giving drivers shorter reaction times. Drive slowly to be safe from such problems.

Check your Lights: Ensure your headlights and taillights are in good working order before hitting the road. See if everything is aimed at and working just as you want to see and be seen by other drivers without blinding them.

Clean Your Windshield: Dust and debris on your windshield might not concern you during the daytime, but at night it scatters light and augments the effects of glare. Clean your windshield inside out before driving at night.
