Make a Monthly Budget

If you haven’t started already, 2019 can be the year you put yourself on a stricter budget. Use the first month to track your expenses, and then go over them to decide what you can do without and find places where you can save money. It doesn’t have to be super strict, just a guideline for how much you should be spending each month.

Put Yourself on the Payroll

While you’re making your budget for your expenses like rent and other bills, put your name on there as well. Make paying yourself part of your budget and use that money for things like paying down debt, starting a savings fund or putting it into your rainy day fund. Forcing yourself to save will pay off in the long run.

Switch to Cash

Studies show that people are much less likely to spend their cash as opposed to simply handing over a card. For 2019, make a concerted effort to use cash instead of credit or debit cards, it’ll help keep impulse buys down and some places offer cash discounts.

Ask for a Raise

Have you been at your job for a while now and haven’t seen much in the way of a salary bump? Then make 2019 the year you finally ask for a raise! Studies show that many employees can get raises simply by asking for one! Even if the answer is no, you’ve shown initiative to your boss and are ready to take the next step in your job.
